It is common for people to know us as We Are Psico. We understand: the word psycho is not common in Spanish, and the temptation to write psico as it sounds is natural. But our name is We Are Psycho, with the complete and correct English word. We are not We Are Psico, we are We Are Psycho.
In English, being psycho means not being quite right in the head. It is a word that has historically carried stigma, a way of labeling someone as weird, dangerous, or out of the ordinary. But at Psycho we want to reclaim that word —psycho, not psico— and restore its most human sense.
We are all a little psycho (or psico, if you prefer)
At Psycho we believe everyone is a little psycho. Anyone who says otherwise probably has not taken an honest look at themselves. And that is fine. There is nothing wrong with having our quirks, our internal struggles, our moments of not understanding what is happening to us. Whether psycho or psico, what matters is recognizing it.
Destigmatizing psycho (and psico)
By calling ourselves We Are Psycho, we want to normalize the conversation about mental health. If we are all a little psycho —or psico in Spanish— then there is nothing to be ashamed of. Asking for help does not make you different, it makes you human.
Authenticity over labels
Our name is a statement of intent. We do not want anyone to feel judged for having emotional problems. We want you to come as you are, with your doubts, your fears, and your processes. There are no labels here, just people.
We are called We Are Psycho. The word psycho is spelled with ch in English, and although in Spanish the temptation to write it as psico is understandable, our correct name is We Are Psycho. We are not We Are Psico.
